From the dance hall to the concert hall, David Mendoza has anchored the rhythm section in countless vocal groups, musical acts, and shows throughout Texas and the US. His hometown of San Antonio provided a breeding ground of musical influences beginning with the hit songs of the 50s/60s, Classic and Contemporary Rock, Motown Soul, Blues, Light Jazz, and all styles of Country music. David’s musical training began with private drum lessons at the age of 12.   In high school he played the tympani and snare drum in his school orchestra.  As his interest in music intensified, this 17 year old drummer worked his way through school in the bars and hotel lounges of San Antonio, learning to play with the soul and feelings expressed in today’s modern music. In college, he was selected as trap set drummer in the San Antonio College Jazz Lab Band while earning a degree in Electronics Technology.  David worked as a percussion instructor in San Antonio before leaving for a multi-year tour of the US with Las Vegas show group “Coco Grove”.

Now based out of Austin TX, David continues his career as a music educator and freelance drummer.  He is Director of the Oak Hill Drum Studio where he provides instruction and guidance to student drummers of all ages.
